FYI: The future of electric vehicles

This morning I had the opportunity to attend a conference by an expert on battery and electric car. This was not an official communication so I won’t nane the speaker but for your information he used to work for the European Commission, for GM and is now deputy director in a Department of Energy unit.

He gave a very frank assessment of the near future in term of electric car. Here are his key points :

  • The 100% electric car is not sustainable now and won’t be for at least a couple of decade.
  • Ideas like battery swaps or fast-charging stations are not reasonably implementable.
  • The future of car lays in hybrid and plug-in hybrid vehicle, coupled with new generation fuel and new generation engines.
