New car, now coming with daylights

Dear European drivers, if you buy a new car somewhere in the Union, as of today –Feb 7th, 2011 – it will come with Daytime Running Lights.

These lights – in general made of light emitting diode, with a low energy consumption – are not a substitute to classic driving lights, to be turned on when it’s dark. The European Commission believes, based on the country when these day lights are already mandatory, that it will improve the road safety by increasing the vehicle visibility.

If you did not heard about that measured before, it has been in the pipes since mid-2008. Don’t say that the EU took us by surprise on this one.

Read two memos on this : from 2008 and one from Feb 7th 2011.
