Newton and the currency crisis

I just attended a seminar by T Levenson, author of the book “Newton and the Counterfeiter: The Unknown Detective Career of the World’s Greatest Scientist“.

The book and the related seminar are describing the unknown job of Newton as Warden of His Majesty’s Mint, in charge of issuing the currency in the United Kingdom.

The challenge Newton had to face at that time were strangely familiar : the risk of rampant inflation, battle between financial conservatives and progressives, … A story that shed light on how the economic and financial system became what it is today.
