Federal EU is Science Fiction

The role of a science-fiction writer is to extrapolate from the present days to paint a possible future. That is what English-SF-genius Peter Hamilton did in the novel Misspent Youth.

The story is not important in itself, I just want to point to the fact that the novel is set in a near future (in about thirty years) with a federal government of the EU, a european prime minister and prominent role for MEPs.

To make the story even more real, the EU is still highly critical viewed by the public, as a technocratic institutions and several separatist groups are mentioned. That feels right to me…
